GEOSEA XI in 2009 was reactivated by the Geological Society of Malaysia under President Dato’ Yunus Abdul Razak, after a lapse of almost 8 years due to unforeseen constraints. GEOSEA XI was organized in Kuala Lumpur to mark the conclusion of the United Nations’ International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE), 2007-2009 which aimed to ensure greater and more effective use of the knowledge accumulated by the world’s 400,000 Earth scientists by society.
